To ensure that your sod gets a good start you should do the following:

  1. Water sod/soil to a depth of 6 inches below the surface
  2. Water daily for 15-20 minutes either in the early morning or late evening until the root system becomes established.  This should be done for 10-12 days.
  3. For the next 2-3 weeks watering should be adjusted to 3 times per week.  Apply about 1/3 inch per application.
  4. Finally water twice a week at 1/2 inch per application.

Note: Most lawns will maintain optimum condition with approximately 1 inch of water per week.  Please remember to follow the rules of your local city, county, or municipality when setting your watering schedule. South Central Texas is subject to drought. Water is a precious commodity, so please be Water Wise!
